Like Japan, India had a golden age in the 1950s. Independence from Britain sparked a robust, questioning artistry. While Satyajit Ray was pioneering the nation’s art cinema, commercial filmmakers such as Raj Kapoor (Awaara), Mehboob Khan (Mother India) and Bimal Roy (Do Bigha Zamin) were grafting influences from Hollywood melodramas and Italian neo-realism onto the Indian tradition of musical narrative.

Most of us at DC++ boast of having a great taste in Hollywood movies, have a never ending queue and thirst of collecting flicks from the West. People queuing on IMDB after a movie releases, checking the rating and reading posts from the people having watched it. How many of you must have clicked the TOP 250 MOVIES at IMDB and rushed to the popular torrent sites to download them.
[Some people have a real bad taste when it comes to movies, they just want a hand on every movie that releases every month.]

I haven't seen a single good Bollywood movies from the yesteryears (50's 60's 70's) on DC. Most of us are ignorant/or haven't had the opportunity to see some classics from the past. I do blame the torrent's because those interested in downloading quality old bollywood flicks are disappointed by the lack of these movies on torrent sites.

Guddi, Satyakam, Guide, Anand, Do bhida zameen .... are some of the cult movies that was made/and forgotten.
When i checked the TOP 250 movie list at IMDB i was really disappointed to not find a single bollywood movie( apart from GANDHI that had a western production team ). My only solace was to find http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0048473/ PATHER PANCHALI in the top 50 movies of 1950's.

When i Googled for top 100 Bollywood Movies/ Top 100 Hindi movies i was presented with the most disgusting links ... http://www.bollywood...ptenalltime.htm
OMG the man who made that list must be shot dead.

I dont understand why the hell do we hate our own culture. The italians and spanish have made a mark of their own ( movies like La vita e bella, Cinema Paradiso, Les Diaboliques,Quatre cents coups, Les .... )
The japanese have around 15 movies in the top 250. Most of them being directed by a single director - Akira Kurosawa.

Not many in the coming generation know about the rich culture that Bollywood defined once. If we dont glorify it ourselves being Indian's noone else can/or will.
I am not saying stop watching/hating Hollywood movies, but let us not forget Bollywood did have a unique identity of its own.
